Alabama MENTOR's caring team provides foster care services to help youth with needs such as trauma, autism, or behavioral health challenges in Birmingham and surrounding areas. In our program, children live with foster parents who give them support through the changes in their lives. Our team of caring clinical professionals creates a care plan for each child and their unique needs to help them overcome challenge. Birmingham Therapeutic Foster Care Services: Helping Children Overcome Trauma

In our therapeutic foster care program, we help children build the life skills and caring relationships they need to build healthy, positive futures. Our team of clinical coordinators, case managers, master’s level therapists, and other caring staff tailor services to each child’s needs, including:

Statistics About Foster Care

  • • As of 2020, there were 214,421 licensed foster homes in the US.
  • Foster children come from all age groups, from infants to up to 20 years old.
  • Children stay in foster care for about 21 months, on average
  • • 54,240 children were adopted from foster care in 2021. (National Council For Adoption) Of those, 55% were adopted by their foster parents. (CCAI)
  • • Over 19,000 children aged out of foster care as recently as 2021. (Annie E. Casey Foundation)

For more than 20 years, Leslie Ann Milton, or “Miss Ann” as she is known to the young people she cares for, has welcomed many teens into her home. They come seeking family and caring support during a difficult time in their lives.
